CHANGES IN VISITOR ACCOMODATIONS

The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism has released the 2006 Visitor Plant Inventory and one finds some interesting tidbits for Maui.

 

Maui hotel rooms declined by 4.8% last year as the Kapalua Bay Hotel was demolished and others underwent renovation. The number of condotel rooms increased 4.3% and timeshares increased 5.8%. Maui also saw a surge in the accommodations priced as luxury (over $500/ night) up to 20% from 16.9% in 2005. Maui accounts for 25% of all visitor units in the state. 41% of Maui's rooms are hotels, 43% are condotels and 11% are timeshare.
